A 23-year-old man was arrested and placed in jail on a cyber crimes warrant for allegedly asking inappropriate sexual requests to a person he believed was a 14-year-old Missouri teen. However, it turns out that the person he was chatting with online was not really a teenager, but rather was an undercover investigator from the Boon County Sheriff's Department Cyber Crimes Task Force. Now the 23-year-old is facing rather serious sex crimes charges.

According to authorities tied to this case, the cyber crime investigation started in September 2011 when the investigator acted like a teenage girl. This "teenage girl" was supposedly contacted in an internet chat room by the 23-year-old.

At the time, the 23-year-old did not know the teenager was really an investigator, and supposedly engaged in some sexual internet chat room conversations. He also supposedly exposed himself on a webcam, and tried to persuade the teen to do the same.

Unknown to him at the time, investigators from the task force were able to trace the conversations back to where the man lived, and ended up showing up at his residence and arresting him. After his arrest he was placed in jail on a $40,000 bond, and was awaiting extradition to Missouri.

In this case, even though the 23-year-old was never really talking to a teenager, he is still being charged as though he was. Additionally, if he is found guilty on the two counts of attempted sexual misconduct involving a child, he could end up facing serious consequences, possibly including jail time.
